SeaCa Plastics Successful in Diverting 6,922 Tons of waste from landfills in 2017

SeaCa Packaging Inc. has reduced the environmental impact of disposing waxed cartons into landfills with the introduction of e-Corr waterproof packaging. With the support of major food retailers and produce packers, the industry is beginning to switch to this environmentally friendly package.

The market for waxed cartons is 1.4 million tons per year, 49% is used in the agriculture industry and 80% of this market is for California produce. The produce industry can eliminate 686,000 tons going into the landfill and the California market alone can eliminate 548,800 tons of landfill waste.

In 2017, SeaCa’s plastic company shipped 3,450 tons of e-Corr produce cartons to packing plants, this included asparagus, broccoli, corn, and celery cartons. The light weight polypropylene cartons further benefited the environment by reducing the use of hydrocarbon fuels during shipping.

Albertsons Companies are one of the leaders in the conversion to e-Corr cartons with over 972 tons of land fill waste being diverted from landfills to recycling centers. Albertsons was able to save on the cost of disposal of waxed cartons and gained revenue in selling their used polypropylene cartons to local recyclers.

A major marketer and packer of celery has committed to convert 2,000,000 celery cartons in 2018.

SeaCa Packaging Inc. remains committed to continue the reduction in our environmental impact for the packaging we produce for the agricultural industry.
